Crowsfoot seed heads appear from late spring or early summer and can have 10 spikelets on each long stem. It infiltrates quickly, so it must be either prevented using a pre-emergent herbicide or early with a post-emergent herbicide.

Crowsfoot has a spiked flower with a similar appearance to that of a crows foot. It is a summer annual that grows in easy to identify tufts, staying flat to the ground with almost white flat sheathed stems and smooth strap like leaves.
